Student Life
Inner Journey
The ten-week Inner Journey program is designed to lead small groups of interested Emma students in the exploration of their life journey and personal development. Each session is loaded with thoughtful questions about how we become who we are and how we live who we are. The bottom line: this is an invitation to reflect on the paths that we wind, and where we would like them to take us. Students ask questions such as:
- Where does my perspective come from?
- How would I describe myself?
- What makes me different from others?
- What is important to me as a human being?
- What do I gain in my relationships with others?
- Are there universal human values?
- How does society challenge or shape those ideas?
- Is my environment important?
- What do I value about my community?
- When have I felt a sense of loss?
- What exists which is greater than myself?
- What experiences have led me to this vantage point?
- What makes me happy?
- To provide an opportunity for interested students to explore their thoughts and ideas on spirituality, faith, and the search for meaning.
- To initiate a safe environment for shared reflection and introspection on life’s big questions.
- To help students develop the language and ability to communicate respectfully and effectively to others, regarding belief development.
- To facilitate exercises which explore the dynamic between life experience and personal belief development.
- To provide tools for self assessment of one’s own belief system.
- To validate to the students that the school sees this journey as something beneficial and potentially important to a young woman’s development.
