Junior Varsity Lacrosse, Spring 2010

EWS 5 – Queensbury 18

Emma Willard freshman Sam opened up scoring for today’s game with Queensbury High. Despite Queensbury’s powerful offense, Emma Willard stepped up and played a hard fought game that showcased strong efforts across the field. High scorer for Emma Willard was Maxine with 2 goals. Mary and Melodi added to Emma Willard’s total by adding a goal each. JV’s next game is April 12 at Schenectady High School.

EWS 13–Schenectady 0

Emma Willard triumphed today with a shutout victory and first win of the season over league rival Schenectady. Freshman Melodi scored the first goal of the game, ending with a tally of 4 goals. Junior goalie Nastascia maintained the shutout, stopping 9 shots on goal from Schenectady. Strong defensive play from Mary and Natalie, who also scored one goal, allowed EWS to maintain possession of the ball at key moments during the game. Additional goals came from Lauren with 2 goals and an assist; Sam with 4 goals; and co-captain Maxine with 2 goals. Emma Willard resumes league action with Glens Falls at home at 4:15pm on Friday, April 16.

EWS 1–Glens Falls 11

In a tough match up versus Glens Falls, Natalie scored the lone goal for Emma Willard. A class act throughout the game, the Jesters played with confidence, refusing to give up and consistently supporting the efforts of teammates. Birthday girl Mary had a terrific game at center, demonstrating her skill both offensively and defensively. Goalie Nastacia had 5 saves on the day. Our next game is with league rival Holy Names on Monday, April 19.

EWS 8–Holy Names 11

In a thrilling match up with longtime lacrosse rival Holy Names, our opponent came out on top. Despite the loss, the score does not tell the whole story. The Jesters had many key moments, both offensively and defensively, dominating the game offensively in terms of shots on goal. Cathleen and Natalie were ground ball pick up stars throughout the second half, allowing Emma Willard to gain possession at several key moments. Julia R was strong in the midfield throughout the game. Maxine and Natalie were forces to be reckoned with for Emma Willard’s offense, both with 2 goals and an assist. Sam and Melodi contributed to our offensive end by scoring 2 goals each.  Emma Willard next faces non-league rival Averill Park on Monday, April 26.

EWS 5–Averill Park 16

Sam opened scoring for Emma Willard with non-league rival Averill Park on a chilly Monday afternoon, tallying 2 goals on the day. Mary provided solid play at both ends of the field, stepping up both offensively and defensively throughout the game. Natalie contributed to Emma Willard’s scoring with 2 goals, along with Maxine, who had one goal and one assist. Emma Willard next faces league rival Schenectady tomorrow at home.

EWS 15–Schenectady 7

Emma Willard faced league rival Schenectady in the teams’ second match up of the season. Key to the victory was stepped up defensive efforts on ground balls by Natalie, Maxine, and Anna. Terrific teamwork resulted in numerous assisted goals, as five players tallied one assist each. Goalie Nastacia had an incredible display in the cage with 22 saves. Mary was the game’s high scorer with 4 goals and one assist; followed by Natalie and Sam, both with 3 goals and one assist; Maxine with 2 goals and one assist; Anna with 2 goals; and Lauren with one goal and one assist. As a team, we experienced some great play in our midfield, making excellent passes and catches in transition. Emma Willard next faces league rival Holy Names on Friday, April 30.

EWS 12–Holy Names 10

In a thrilling victory, Emma Willard demonstrated its tenacity and focus by overcoming league rival Holy Names by a 2-goal margin. The game remained intense from beginning to end through numerous lead changes. Emma Willard stepped up the defense through the impressive efforts of Anne, Julia R, and Cathleen. Sam led scoring with 5 goals, followed by Melodi with 3, Natalie with 2, and captains Maxine and Anna with one goal each. Goalie Nastacia garnered an impressive 16 saves. At the end of the game, Coach Kish expressed her pride in the team’s hard work and composure, noting how the team takes what they’ve learned in practice and puts it in motion at game time. Emma Willard next faces South Glens Falls on May 11.

EWS 9–South Glens Falls 13

In a hard fought contest in South Glens Falls, Emma Willard experienced a narrow 13-9 loss. Mary was strong on offense and defense, stepping up to mark the opposing team’s toughest player. Emma worked well together as a team throughout the game, making adjustments as needed and working as a cohesive unit. High scorer Sam had 6 goals on the day, followed by Maxine with 2, Lauren with 3 assists, and birthday girl Erin with one assist. Anne, Seojin, and Mina demonstrated their ability to step up when needed, working hard on the defensive end. Goalie Nastascia racked up an impressive 23 saves.

EWS 9–Schuylerville 10

The game was a nail-biter down to the final seconds as Emma Willard narrowly missed out on a win versus league rival Schuylerville. Yvonne and Cathleen stepped up at several key moments defensively, gathering rebounds and forcing turnovers. Maxine led all scoring with 6 goals. Natalie and Melodi each had one goal, and Julia D, Mary, and Anna contributed to the scoring efforts with one assist each. Coach Kish wishes to express her pride in the efforts and accomplishments of the team for an outstanding season, and stands in admiration of the composure and class shown by a team that respects each other, fellow players, teams and coaches, and the game itself.
