Director of Admissions

Jeff Pilgrim is in his first year at Emma Willard as the director of admissions. Jeff graduated from Trinity College (CT) with a degree in biology. He was a member of the men’s’ varsity soccer team and was selected as captain his senior year. After graduation, he worked at The Peddie School in New Jersey for six years, where he taught biology and coached varsity girls’ soccer and basketball. Prior to Emma, Jeff was the associate director of admission and girls’ varsity soccer coach at his alma mater, The Williston Northampton School, for 18 years. During his time at Williston, his soccer teams won two New England Class B championships and two runners-up titles. At Emma Willard, Jeff is an advisor to four girls and will oversee the international component of the admissions process. Jeff lives on campus and is engaged to be married in August 2010!

Director of Financial Aid
Coordinator of Institutional Research

Jeremy Bollam has been the director of financial aid and coordinator of institutional research at Emma Willard for four years. He graduated from Vanderbilt with a degree in economics and math before taking a position as a consultant with Accenture in Charlotte and San Diego. He then returned to school and received his law degree from the University of Connecticut. Prior to working at Emma Willard, he was an attorney for Lemery Greisler in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his admissions responsibilities, Jeremy helps in the Math Learning Center and serves as the assistant coach for the varsity tennis team. He lives near the campus with his wife and son.

Associate Director of Admissions

Carolyn Walker,associate director of admissions, is in her first year at Emma Willard School. Prior to Emma Willard, she worked for four years at The Gunnery in Washington, CT, where she served as associate director of admission, head dorm parent, advisor, and varsity volleyball and crew coach.  A graduate of Trinity College (CT), Carolyn majored in psychology and played varsity volleyball and crew, serving as captain for both sports. Her crew team won the New England Championships and made two NCAA appearances. She also worked as a residential assistant and admissions associate during her time at the college. At Emma she will oversee the tour guide program and serve as an advisor to four girls. She lives in Glenmont, NY, with her boyfriend and cat, Lucy.

Admissions Counselor

Emma Willard graduate Abigail Sussman ’05 returns to her alma mater as the new admissions counselor. In the spring of 2009, Abby graduated summa cum laude from Colby College, where she majored in sociology and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She also participated in Colby Cares about Kids program, served as a head resident and worked in the college library. During her time at Emma, Abby served as a proctor and peer educator. She also played on the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams. Abby lives on campus in Cluett House and serves as a dorm affiliate.

Admissions Office Manager
, 1999

Sharone Busone is in her tenth year as admissions office manager at Emma Willard School. She graduated with high honors from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in elementary education and fine arts. She was involved in dance, theatre, kayaking, and interned at a preschool program for children with limited gross motor skills. After graduation she attended the American Dance Festival at Duke University. Prior to working at Emma Willard she was a substitute teacher and co-owner of a family restaurant for 18 years. Sharon lives in Troy, NY, with her husband and has two grown children.

Administrative Assistant
, 2003

Admissions assistant Mari Webb is entering her seventh year at Emma Willard. After graduating magna cum laude from Temple University, Mari taught at Villa Joseph Marie High School in Holland, PA, for twelve years. She was a health and physical education teacher and student council moderator before taking on the position of dean of students in her last four years. At Emma Willard, Mari coordinates student visits and helps with the Emma Willard tour guide program. She lives with her husband in nearby Albany, NY.  

 

Emma Willard is one of five boarding schools enrolling Davis Scholars, extraordinarily talented young women from across the globe whose high school and college educations are supported by grants from the Shelby Collom David Foundation. Scholars in 2009-2010 hail from Saudi Arabia, Bolivia, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Croatia and the United States.
