Strategic Plan: The Plan for Emma Willard's Third Century

Mission Statement

Honoring its founder’s vision, Emma Willard School proudly fosters in each young woman a love of learning, the habits of an intellectual life, and the character, moral strength, and qualities of leadership to serve and shape her world.

In February 2009 the Board of Trustees approved the following vision statement and goals as the first step in launching a strategic planning process that will include a bicentennial celebration.

Vision

Extending the reach of its founder’s distinctive vision to encompass the global community, Emma Willard will craft and share the best education for girls.

Goals

1. The faculty will demonstrate clearly and powerfully Emma Willard’s leadership in education for girls, based on the most relevant research on both learning styles and the skills girls need in a rapidly transforming world.
2. The school’s fiscal planning will honor our historic structures, observe environmentally sound practices, and create imaginative spaces to accommodate the curriculum.
3. The school will implement an innovative, comprehensive, and nimble campaign to communicate world-wide our excellence and leadership in girls' education.

Over the course of the 2009–2010 school year, the board will engage the constituencies of the school in crafting initiatives to move Emma Willard boldly toward the realization of these simple yet powerful goals.
